
Mayflower Theatre are seeking a new Youth Theatre Director
Job Description
Mayflower Theatre is the largest independent theatre in the south of the UK. They present a wide range of performances including large scale musicals, opera and dance. They have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join their busy, friendly Community and Education (Engage) team to plan and deliver Youth programmes of work. You can either be from a musical theatre or drama background.
In particular you will:
Manage a Youth Programme budget in conjunction with the Creative Learning Manager
Oversee the artistic work focused on and created by Mayflower Youth Theatre (Musical and Drama Strands), and Mayflower Junior Youth Theatre ensuring groups are accessible and diverse
Lead and facilitate weekly drama sessions for Mayflower Youth Theatre (MYT), and Mayflower Musical Theatre (MMYT) strand to develop their acting & performance skills
Lead Engage members of staff and freelance practitioners in running youth theatre provision, setting out expectations and supporting where necessary
Oversee the work of the Youth Theatre Coordinator, who will lead on delivering Junior Youth Theatre and Production Arts
Work in collaboration with the Music Practitioner and support the Youth Projects Lead to deliver The Elevate Ensemble training programme, including delivering weekly actor training workshops, directing showcases and attending trips.
Plan and direct yearly productions and one-off performances for Mayflower Youth Theatre (MYT) and Mayflower Musical Youth theatre (MMYT) and to support participants, including delivering effective behaviour management strategies.
Attend all meetings required for Youth Theatre productions and performances
Job Requirements
What are they looking for in our Youth Theatre Director?
Are you reliable, punctual & honest?
Do you have experience of managing a Youth Theatre programme?
Do you have at least 3 years' experience of directing Theatre productions with young people
Do you have line management experience
Have a robust understanding of the theatre production process
Have previous experience of administering and co-ordinating arts-based projects
Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure
Team player, who thinks organisationally
A self-starter
Flexible approach
Proficient in Microsoft packages inc. word, excel and outlook
Experience in monitoring and reporting against budgets, and in ongoing evaluation and reporting on projects
Budget management experience.
Degree in drama, performing arts or an arts-based subject or equivalent qualification
